Laina is an adventurous Pittsburgh native and National Park Service nomad fueled by faith, family, friends and food. She is currently a seasonal Park Ranger for the National Park Service with a huge heart for protecting the environment, creating community, and playing outdoors. When she’s not protecting our public lands, she’s either running, hiking, kayaking, or practicing yoga in them! Just like the outdoors, Laina finds her kitchen to be a place of healing and home and enjoys the gift of nourishing her body and soul with plant-based foods.
As a runner, Laina got hooked on the sport when she joined her high school cross country team on a bet that she wouldn’t commit, which in turn led to a year of collegiate running with the Women’s Cross Country Team at Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania. Six years later, she has competed in many distance races ranging from 5K’s to several half marathons, and is currently training for her second full marathon this April in St. Louis, MO. If all goes well, she plans to train for her first Ultra 50K in 2018. No matter where the trail may take her, Laina strives to approach life with nothing more than a kind heart, open mind, and adventurous spirit.
