Man if I had a dollar for every time I’ve heard that phrase. And if I’m being honest way back when, I really thought it was a crazy idea too, as I’m sure quite a few of us have thought. But here I am almost 2.5 years later and I’m a full on vegan and I’ve never felt better!
I’m not sure what held some of you back, or what is still holding you back, but for me the final step was giving up dairy. Oh how could I ever live without ice cream or cheese?!?! Well good news, there are so many alternatives these days, that I will never miss the real stuff (and not just cause it made me sick)! So I thought it could be fun to share some of my favorite “vegan hacks” or alternatives that keep me happy, and make me love being a vegan :).
First like I said giving up dairy was terrifying! I could eat ice cream everyday, pretty awful to admit but I loved the stuff! However, in the last couple years I’ve had the great enjoyment of trying new products, from one brand in particular,
If you haven’t tried their products then you are seriously missing out! They produce everything from dairy-free treats, to yogurt, to different kinds of nut milks, and beyond! This is one brand that has been a constant in my life since I switched to a plant-based lifestyle. If you’re also looking for a healthy, and beyond easy to make ice cream alternative, try making “nice-cream.” One of my favorite treats on a hot summer day, or even in the winter!
Another fantastic company is:
They produce (in my opinion) the best cheese alt. They also make vegan pizzas, and vegan yogurts. I also know that you can make cheese-alternatives using cashews, personally haven’t tried it, but the outcome always looks delicious! And I know a lot of vegans swear by Nooch- Nutritional Yeast, but I just can’t hop on board haha! I think it tastes horrible and makes everything I’ve added it to taste so bad. Maybe one day I’ll figure out a way to make it tolerable, but today is not that day!

Both of these companies are amazing!! I love Tofurkey’s Kielbasa sausages in my spaghetti, adds just the right amount of delicious! And Beyond Meat makes a killer vegan burger! I’ve tried making my own vegan hamburger, but I’m terrible at it, and was beyond excited when I found Beyond Meat :). I also really enjoy their grilled Chick’n, tastes pretty darn close to actual chicken.
Two other fantastic sources of protein are tofu and tempeh. Both are definitely and acquired taste, but can taste amazing if prepared to your liking. I love freezing my tofu, then thawing it, wringing out the excess water, rolling it in corn starch and then frying it. It tastes like tater tots and goes amazing in a stir fry! And tempeh is an amazing replacement for bacon. I’ll make tempeh bacon BLTs, and never once wish I had actual bacon.
And if you’re anything like me, I have a wicked sweet tooth! I love candy, chocolate, cookies, etc… I seriously love how much of a variety there is in the sweets department. If you’re a fan of Oreos, then good news they ARE vegan! Skittles, Swedish Fish, Annie’s fruit snacks (which my son loves), uses pectin instead of Gelatin and therefore are vegan. There is a whole plethora of other yummies out there I’m sure I’m forgetting but the items I’ve listed have helped keep me on the vegan path, and as long as they’re still around I’ll be one happy lady :).
